Electricity Project: Fruit Batteries Project
Electricity Science Project - Fruit Batteries
The purpose of this kid science fair project experiment is to determine which fruit produces electricity for the longest period of time. Background:
Research information on batteries, electricity, and electrical circuits. Answer the following questions: What is a voltaic battery? How do batteries produce electricity? How can fruits be used as batteries?
Hypothesis:
From your research you will predict which fruit will produce electricity for the longest period of time.
Materials: (Adult supervision of kids is always recommended.)
- Suggested kit: Two Potato Clock
Scientifics Online: Two Potato Clock - ages 6 and up
- 1 of each fruit (lemon, apple, orange, and tomato)
- paper
- pencil
1. Gather materials needed for your experiment.
2. Record all of the materials in your kit.
3. Press and roll the large lemon on a flat surface to loosen juices.
4. Follow instructions on your kit for how to insert the probes into your fruit.
5. Once your clock starts working, record the time it takes for the clock to stop functioning.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 with the apple, orange, and tomato.
7. Repeat this experiment two more times.

Results:
Record your data and compare your results. Graph and chart your data. Which fruit lasted the longest?
Conclusion:
Summarize what happened in your fruit batteries project experiment based on your results. Explain patterns in your data. Did your data support your hypothesis? If not, explain why. Evaluate your project and make suggestions for improvements.
