Science Project Displays

Science project displays provide a canvas for showing off your science project. You've worked hard to complete your science fair project, so you want your display to properly reflect your work. The following information should be used as a guide when getting ready to display your science project.

Display Boards

Different science fairs have different display board requirements. Before preparing any science project display, you should know the rules and requirements for the size and shape of the display board.

The best way to display your project is to use a tri-fold board. This type of board is divided into three sections. Your tri-fold board may consist of foam board, cardboard, or plywood. Be sure however, that the display board you choose is sturdy.

Arrange Your Display

Here is where you decide how to display your science project results. Headings that should be included on your display are: a title or question, your hypothesis, purpose, materials, procedure, data, observations, and conclusion.

Place your project title or question in the center board in large letters. Your data may also be placed in the center board under your title. The data can be in the form of graphs, charts, pictures, or tables.

The purpose, hypothesis, materials, and procedure headings and information may be listed on the left section of your science project display board. To save space, the materials and procedure can be described under a single heading called experiment.

The results and conclusion may be listed on the right section of the display board. Some science fairs require that you do an abstract. This is a short summary of your project, usually a few paragraphs. If so, your abstract heading and information may be placed on either the right or left sections of your display board.

Helpful Tips
  • Be sure your work is neat and free from errors such as misspellings.
  • Use contrasting colors to make your display more visually appealing.
  • Make sure all diagrams and charts are neat. Use a computer to generate graphs and charts.
  • Take a look at some sample science project displays. See: How to Display Results.
